Frequently Asked Questions

I’ll try to keep this current, but please ask if something seems out of date or out of whack.  These are in no particular order.

What’s it like being on the board?

Mostly good and a very good learning opportunity.  I only started in October 2009 and some days are better than others.  The opportunity to meet new people and to share and collaborate on new ideas has been very enjoyable.  Learning about our US and PA educational system has been enlightening and frustrating.  Learning about local politics…well, we’ll see how much I learn.

Residency

There is a Residency Office.  Please contact them with any questions or concerns.  They are very good at what they do, trust me.  Details of any specific concern are always a private matter under State Law

Transparency and Posting Things on our Website

I believe you have a right to know what is happening in our district provided you also take the time to understand the complexities of school management and finance as well as the system of rules and laws that boards and districts must comply with.  It is my personal goal to increase transparency and to increase the information available that can help you understand these complexities and laws. I have been pleased by the increase in materials being published and will seek further progress. To save paper and because Board committee presentations are visible to all, we do not hand out multiple copies except to Board members. If there is something discussed at a public meeting that you would like to obtain a copy of, please contact the District or see the District Right to Know office.  If you do obtain information, please also provide it to your fellow constituents, so that we can minimize the cost (it’s everyone’s money) of these requests.

See “The List” for other topics and I welcome your input and suggestions as comments or direct email to me, though I cannot always respond.
